Teacher, a lifetime job!!!???
Saturday, April 12th, 2008Another 2 more weeks, i will be free. Free from what?? Free from my Teaching Practical in SMK Telok Kumbar Penang. Free from USM, i think so. I have finished my 4 years course in Science Educational Studies that time..
Teaching Practical (LM) makes me realised a lot of stuff that other people won’t know if they never teach in a school! All said that teaching profession is a "Gold Rice Bowl" in nowadays. I am not denying it as it is true. A fresh graduate can have a salary around RM2800 (included all the allowances) when they start to work. And all said that teachers can have a lot of Holiday in a year and the working hours are very short. So, most of the parents would encourage their children to apply the Educational Studies course to secure a job in future. Well, for my advise is ‘if you think u do not like teaching, please, DO NOT become a Teacher! Because you will regret and you would only bring HARM to the students!!!!!’ Agree??
School hours: For 2 session school, school starts at 720 am and ends around 1.00pm. But if there is additional classes for PMR, SPM and STPM class, then it would probably end around 230pm. For 1 session school, school starts at 720am and normally end around 240pm. But my LM school, Monday and Tuesday end at 320pm, Wed at 240pm, thurs at 200pm (if no meeting. if got meeting, around 300 - 330pm) and fri at 12pm. So, if school have meeting, you will probably end around 3pm. So, it depend the school u get. For my LM school, i have to work for around 7 to 8 hours except friday. Don’t forget, the above is for Curiculum hours. We still have CO-curiculum!!!
The above hours is ONLY use for ‘P and P’ (Learning and Teaching). A teacher’s job is NOT ONLY P and P. You have to incharge of some Co-curiculum as well: Badan Beruniform, SUkan dan Permainan and Kelab dan Persatuan. U cannot run away from it!! If you are LUCKY, you get to bring students to go out and compete in games and all sort of activities (may be for a whole day~~~). Lucky??? Besides that, you have to stay in school after P and P to train your students, esp in sports. In additional, you will also have other than what i mentioned above. For example, incharge for Library, Prefects, Rumah Sukan, Guru Tingkatan, Bilik Komputer and so on.. You CANNOT run away from it!
Opps, forget to say about P and P. Answer the following question 1st: Do you think Teaching or providing your knowledge to students are Easy Job?? Answer for YES: If your students are those Smarties and hardworking, yeah, your job will be very very easy. But, it will also be very challenging as they may question you a lot of stuff that u may not realise b4 but also some weird2 stuff as they think too complicated!! You have to prepare yourself well. Answer for NO: If your students are those lazy type or slow learner or not interested in studies, your job will be very tiring and very challenging. SOme said very easy, cos they won’t ask you many questions and will be less tension. Well, it is but you will know later, mentally and physically tired! When you are fresh, you have all sort of imaginary about teaching; you get to help students to know better, strike ‘A’ for exam and so so on. Well, i can say that i bring a 100% spirits to the school to teach. Now, my spirits only left about 40%. Students have DEmoralised me! I m not saying they are bad. But their passion in studies are quite low and their attitude in learning making me feel so sad. I cannot say all the teachers are like me. But there are quite a lot feel what i feel.
Here comes my question: Will i be able to become a Teacher for the whole life??? Is teaching profession my only career??? High salary, lots of holiday, short working hours, are they attracted to you??? Now i only know why there SHOULD have a lot of holiday. Because it needed to maintain teacher’s spirits and let them to mentally and physically rest in those holiday! Teaching is not like what you think, easy job? NO, definitely NO! If you want to comment on Teacher or Teaching Profession, you will have to 1st ‘taste’ or get some Teaching experiences first b4 YOU SAID THAT THIS IN AN EASY JOB! You will know what a Teacher’s have to face and their pressure! But if you just treat it as a job, only a money searcher for u, i suggest you DON’T join this profession. You will only Harm the students as this job require High Responsibility!
Well well, to all the Senior Teachers, i really SALUTE you all. Now only i realised what is a TEACHER. For a FRESHY like me, there are lots for me to think…. Well well, i am going to be jobless in 2 weeks time. Ha… For the moment waiting for my posting and convocation, i will need to think2 and have a long break after LM.
Gambate!!!
